Tuesday – We took the morning to attend to appointments and shopping. We had morning tea with Aunty Beebee (who made the encouraging comment to Daniel that that he was speaking so very well and that she could understand him so much better.) For all Id like to say that we discussed things while we were shopping that just didnt happen today some days just gotta happen without any life lessons being drawn out!
Josh, Nomi and Daniel have been doing lots of drawing lately especially using the drawing books that break objects (such as animals) into shapes as the foundation of your drawing.
Jess helped Nomi print off a card for Grandad using a Card Making CD Rom. Nomi then, in her own creative way, wrote the words Get well and her own heartfelt words.
Wednesday Josh and Jess both worked on notebook pages and story-writing this morning. Nomi had pain so did some reading while lying down. Daniel had seen a wallaby while on a bike ride early this morning so he got out a how to draw book and drew a kangaroo. He went on to draw a few other Australian animals.
Daniel started his Space unit today. We read about astronomy and how people have used the stars over the centuries. He looked at pictures and familiarised himself with the Southern Cross. After Dinner we went out and looked at our skies. We saw the Southern Cross and a few planets, which we tried to identify in line with some information printed off the Internet.
We watched TV news for kids show BTN nothing really sparked the kids interest this week.
Jess and I sat down again to listen to more of D.Warings What in the World is going on here. We stopped the tape a lot today while we checked out what was being said in a Bible Atlas. Jess said many times during the day, Im really enjoying this history. When I asked her why or what she was enjoying she would say things like, I just never knew this. I knew this king and that king but I never knew of this king It is just interesting!
While we listened to the tape Nomi and Daniel did some drawings after a short lesson on perspective. We reviewed what they saw when Pete took them up Kellys Knob. I got them both to get a toy plane and we discussed looking at it from the side and from on top. They then had to draw two pictures one with the plane on their desk getting a side view and one with the plane on the floor getting a top view. Their drawings came out very well.
Since weve come inside from our star-gazing session Josh has been full of inventive ideas for tracking this and that in the sky. Whether anything ever comes from it is beside the point it is a good exercise in creative, inventive thinking. His last question before lights out was can you tell the temperature by the evaporation rate?
