I was challenged the other day by Loris housekeeping tips to get my kitchen benches into order. I really didnt have much success but headed off for my busy day anyway.
I came home to find that someone had burnt something on the stove, and decided to leave the windows and doors all open (to get a very bad smell out of the house). When I got home to an empty house the kitchen, lounge, and dining rooms were literally FULL of flies. Ugghh! My skin shudders just typing it! I just screamed . They were swarming knee deep! Ghastly! When I walked through them (as I must!) they swarmed all up around my face down to my feet! Shudder!
So, after my little paddy of screaming, I got to and killed them all. Then I had to vacuum the floor, the windowsills, behind furniture. Then it was safe to have my family living there again. I had to go out again for the rest of the morning but when I came home that cleaning bug hit me big time. I scrubbed the benches and the cupboard doors then I got really serious and vacuumed the blinds front and back, up and around every nook and cranny. I took down my kitchen valance, which was home to many things I dont want to talk about online! That is now clean too.
I wrote myself a little list of all the little tasks that needed to be done (walls wiped down, recipe books put away, recipe drawer sorted, paper piles removed, stove top and microwave to be cleaned, etc etc). Over the last few days I have achieved a couple of these tasks in a ½ hour period and my kitchen is starting to shine and be a nice place to be!
All I wish is that it didnt have to take flies, in such a massive proportions, to get me going!
Hi Belinda,
I started Spring Cleaning last week and all was going well until I hit the computer room/booknook. ~sigh~Well, I have done dh’s study, our bedroom, the porch and our computer room/booknook. Maybe next week I’ll get the loungeroom and kitchen done! 🙂
Cheers,
Susan, who also struggles with kitchen benches…
