These are my notes on what character/moral training is going on around here. I have been thinking about parental training in terms of our children "putting off" the old self and "putting on" the new creation in Christ. I need to be able to help my children to do this.
I am not journaling in the full sense but rather notetaking. I am posting these thoughts for two reasons –
1. To keep in my mind what I am working on with my children and to be clear as to what they need to put off and what to put on!
2. To encourage any readers as what is going on around here may prompt you to see something going on around your place.
Why would you not follow instructions? Because you think you know better – Pride – Wise in your own eyes. You need to "put on" humility.
Putting your hand up when you know the answer… We must revisit “Attentiveness” as this addressed this problem very well. The “I know I know” as they flick they hand in front of your face – is very distracting for all concerned. Put off drawing attention to yourself and put on attentiveness.
Chore training – come back to mummy to let her know the job is finished. (doesn’t matter how small the task is!) Put off making your own decisions and put on referring to your authority.
Taking offense – it is your choice to take offense or not. (I have lost the scripture I had earmarked for this situation so I must go digging). Another child pretends to take offense, which is equally inappropriate. Put off taking offense and put on covering all in love.
