Am I defined by the homeschool curriculum I use, or by the parenting philosophy I subscribe to, or by the achievements in my life. I hope to be defined (and therefore assessed by others) by the Word of God. I am, and try to be, first and foremost a Christian.
We can so easily get caught up in being a good .. (whatever type of homeschooler we wish to be) or we want to represent .. such and such philosophy. But for me I want my life to be guided by the Word of God I want to be matching up with that alone. If I fail I only have the Word of God to fall back on and it is full of the promises of God – His mercy, forgiveness and His Grace. Why be anything else!
I get excited about many things related to home and teaching my children, but they would all be empty apart from the knowledge of Him.
I love Paul’s prayer in Col. 1:9-12, “…that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy…”
