We had a great time with introducing the Character trait: Cautiousness. There is so much more to this trait than being careful (which tends to be on the physical side of life). We focused on the moral side to think before we act, to consider the affects of our actions on others, on ourselves. The consequences. Being led by the Spirit so that all we do, every decision we make lines up with the Word of God.
We enjoyed Colin Buchanans song Baa Baa doo Baa Baa as we looked at the natural inclinations we have and that they dont line up with God and that Jesus died to take away the consequences. We made a little book to reflect all these thoughts. Nomi and Daniel made a sheep-shape book with copy writing. Josh and Jess made a flipbook to write a comparison between our way and Gods way.
Josh worked on his Math, Nomi and Jess played Rummikin.
Daniel and JA (6yo belonging to our visiting family) became friends today it has taken a few days for them to click. But today was lets be friends!
Tuesday 31st January 2006
Once again Josh worked on his Math, while Jess and Nomi played Rummikin. Daniel had his reading lesson and was blending some end sounds really well.
Our time with Cautiousness was focused around I will think before I act. We brainstormed what think meant. It was hard to think of words, as it is such a basic action! After we got a few up on the board, Josh jumped on the Thesaurus on the computer and came up with a few more. All did copywriting for their I Will Statements.
Nomi and Daniel had a discussion on reference books. They looked at a Dicitonary, a Thesaurus and their own Writing Handbook. We discussed that reference books are used to find out something and that we needed to know what each reference book told us so that we could use the right tool when we needed to know something.
After lunch the boys went outside to build a rocket propelled by air pressure. Thanks to the two big boys belonging to our visiting family they got the experiment well and truly going excellently! The downside of this was all they wanted to do after the excitement wore off was to watch Thunderbirds DVD!! Which they did.
The girls, though they spent some time watching the result of the boys experiements, spent most of their time talking and working on jigsaw puzzles. Later in the night they devised a signal system so that we can signal from our house to their motor home when the children have the freedom to play with each other!
