I woke this morning, Good Friday, a little sad that we hadnt completed our Easter Studies this week we had 2 good days and that was it. It then dawned on me that Easter isnt a school subject it is our life.
Today is the day we remember Jesus dying on the cross for us today is the day that I need to share that with the children. There is no prize for them knowing all the answers. Today, as we set aside time to think, remember and give praise for his sacrifice, today is the day it is real for my children. Today we will remember together and the children will learn a little bit more about their Lord and Saviour!
I certainly don’t think it is a subject but it does present us with an opportunity to learn more about our Lord…an opportunity to allow the children to develop some more *mental hooks* and to tie things together. I find that it is helpful for the gaining knowledge stage of adolescents but then it can also be a time where they deepen in the understanding of God.
I was saddened to learn that a loal Christian school did hardly anything to remember or commemorate the death and resurrection of our Lord, or to remind (or teach) the children of God’s promises through the story of the Passover. I guess it’s alright though as some of the teachers gave out easter eggs to the children ~sigh~
Anyway, I like to use holidays or events as learning opportunities…and this time of the year is my favourite time of the year!
Blessings,
