As I become more comfortable acknowledging the process not just the end product I would like to see that reflected in my journaling of the childrens education.
Joshua Joshua wrote a short paragraph for the newspaper today on the Co-op day last week. In editing it we read several sections of our Writing Handbook, Writers Inc., focusing on sentences incomplete sentences and ironically too wordy or too flashy sentences. Joshua spent his Table time outside, on the lawn, in the shade reading, thinking and writing.
Jessica Jessica continued with making another Easter box for our table decorations. Though I am unaware of any lesson she learnt I did notice the box is crisper and sharper so there is improvement. She has also been making a few bookmarks from felt experimenting with shapes and stitching versus gluing. After Jessica went through her to do list for Daniels party with me (we prioritised it together) she spent some time with Daniel confirming costumes. I played a game of Numero with Jessica, and since we are only just starting this game we added the subtraction Wild cards for the first time tonight.
Naomi Nomi has spent most of her free time today working on a model bird it is made from recycled products and felt. She has also been looking for a good book on parrots but I think we will need to go to the library for that. Nomis language arts was in the form on an oral narration that I wrote for her Easter booklet.
Daniel Daniel has been a bit flipperty today. Nomi, Daniel and I played a very basic version of Rummykub with the math cards Daniel made yesterday. He is progressing very well with reviewing his Reading Made Easy lessons. Today he blended ap family words and at family words very fluently. Tomorrow we start on a new lesson new material. He is very keen at the moment. Daniel also gave an oral narration for his Easter story. Though we havent got to our FIAR book today we have read a few other stories.
Daniel found our old Video camera today it has been so long since we used it I cant remember which part of it stopped working which discouraged us with the whole concept! But he is a keen photographer and likes the idea of videoing so we are in the process of trying it out. Nomi and Daniel pretended to read the news, M&M News, with Daniel (with the video which is still not working) being the pretend cameraman.
As a family we read in the Bible some of Jesus last week before he was cruicified focusing on His teachings and his warnings of what was to come.
We also completed a short lesson on Oral communication with all of us (including myself and Peter) giving a short speech introducing ourselves to the family. The main thing that most of us have to watch is saying a-n-d . as we think of the next thing to say.
Earlier in the day Pete spent some time with the kids opening a coconut – no-one really liked the milk and then he got them to check out their bikes. Tyres needed pumping, helmets needed adjusting and cobwebs needed to be dusted off. After that little bit of maintenance everyone wanted a rid so their outside time was extended (their time on Discipline studies was reduced!) and they went for a long ride up and down our road.
I started our Science with Living books today with a read aloud non-fiction book, Cell Wars, but I have a sore eye and had to give up reading.

Thanks for your offer of this book – I do have a copy but it is on my “Must Read List” for new homeschoolers and I have leant it out. She is reading it so I have borrowed another friends to check out a few things but she wants it back for her holidays end of this week.<<<
Lol, its that kind of book isnt it? Its on my ‘must-reads’ list too……I cant count how many times I have lent books out from this list and then wanted them! :o/
>>>When I first was lent this book I devoured it – Pete took over all care of the children (we were on holidays and I think he even did most of the meals – I just read and took notes and read!!!) I am looking forward to reading it again and getting as much from it as I did the first time – I think it is that kind of book. <<<
Yep, I completely agree. Mind you, Im saying that and I have put it aside at the moment……..I finally got hold of a copy of Edith Schaeffer’s ‘Hidden Art’ and have been devouring that. I’ll pick up WHC again soon though.
I’ve just ordered the HoW book too, so Im really looking forward to getting stuck into that one as well. I notice you’ve just joined the e-list, Im lurking at the moment……I dont have much wisdom in that area so Im hoping no-one minds if I just sit and glean. :o)
Im really enjoying your blog! I enjoy reading what you are doing with Joshua being a few years older than my boys. I hope you like the Living Books Science, Ive enjoyed it so far.
