THURSDAY – We started off our day today with a good session with the house chores.  It didn’t matter who did what just that we all worked together at what needed to be done till it was done!  My goal was to get caught up with my laundry.  In between loads I headed to the office.  The kids settled themselves (without me saying anything) into their discipline studies.

Pete then had a man and dog turn up so Pete had the kids out with him looking at skin, hairs etc from the dog under a microscope.

This in particular inspired Jess – she connected what she was seeing with the reading we have done on Louis Pasteur – she thought of him looking down microscopes all day.  Seeing the “scales” in one strand of her own hair fascinated her.  She was stirred to learn – she wants to learn everything from how her body is put together to html plus she wants to experience the other things in life such as scrapbooking, craft and sewing.

Pete then took them traipsing off to see why the road is so soggy boggy – basically the channels are too full and the soil is subbing up and more.

Pete then spent time with Daniel building yet another rocket.  His version based on the highchair has been dismantled as he is now using an old baby car seat as the basis for his rocket design.  Daddy was needed with electric drill for some of the construction so it is all happening in seriousness!  While they worked on this Jess and Nomi played Draughts and Josh researched his history topic.

Pete then took them down to check out their Sandalwood trees – unfortunately Jessica’s is looking a little sad so we will have to see if it pulls through or not.  We will measure then in a week or two to start our recording of their growth.

After lunch we had the Anderson family visit – for the last time as they move on early next week.  It is a part of our life making friends and saying good-bye due to the transient population of the town.  It is a good thing for the kids to get used to.  Some people in the town hedge themselves from making new friends because they know they will just have to say goodbye.  But I remember the people that I have become friends with over the years, and the impact they had on my life before they left town.  I would not be the same person without those friendships (even if I don’t continue the friendships after they leave).  This is the kind of outlook I would like my children to grow into.

As I was preparing dinner Daniel came up to me quite excited because he was recognising a person in a magazine he was reading. “First I saw him on the TV, now he is here in the magazine!!”  He was incredulous that I knew who this person was – it was John Howard.  So we had a little lesson on a country needing a government and a person being the boss of that government (plus a little reminder that God was the big boss, and daddy was the next boss in Daniel’s little life!!)  I am thinking this would make a great notebook page.

Josh was thrilled to see more books arrive in the mail today.  Not only Ivanhoe but a few books for his next history period.  I should have reminded him that I need a written assignment from his previous period before he gets hooked into the next.  Too late!
