Tuesday
Today I have booked myself in for an online workshop with Cindy Rushton so the kids have independent work for a couple of hours.
Before the online session started we discussed what needed to be done and I wrote it all down on the laminated chart.
Over the weekend there was a nature show on the TV on Hurricanes though it was too late for the kids to watch it so we copied it for them to watch this week. It was only in my reviewing my days plans yesterday that I realised one of our discussions in our Character studies of Determination was going to be on Hurricanes. So they watched the show together as their first independent activity. Later in the day as we were driving to friends each of them had something to say about the hurricane their narrations.
They then headed for their desks to complete their math lessons. Josh, Jess, and Nomi worked on their Math U See while Daniel had some worksheets from various resources for him to complete. Jess read the instructions to him as he needed.
After morning tea I felt they were all a bit sluggish (not surprising after a video first up in the morning!!) so they went outside to play a modified version of rounders. I modified it so that it could be fair for all levels of ability with hitting the ball and running. They had a great time. They eagerly went down to a new paddock which had a sprinkler on it with the intention of getting wet (and remaining outdoor) but the water was still too cold so they climbed a tree instead!
By this time I was off line and we had some more desk time. Josh, Jess and Nomi all worked on writing. Joshua on some edited corrections, Jess on Egypt and Nomi a hand-written creative story. Daniel had his Reading Made Easy lesson and then FIAR. For his FIAR time we completed the little books I had prepared for his scrapbook. This was a good time for review and we are now finished the Hill of Fire unit, which is actually from HomeschoolShare.
Not sure where the afternoon went as I inteded to read more to Nomi and Jess from their Impressionist Read Aloud but all of a sudden it was time to get ready to go visiting some friends.
We havent visited these friends very much we seem to catch up incidentally a lot and it was very good to see Daniel playing with the 2 little girls he was actually leading the play, which was a new thing for him.
Over dinner we opted to watch 2 of the Portraits of the Stars with Rolf Harris. The kids get very inspired during these shows so it looks like we will have to do some painting tomorrow.
As far as my goal in training Daniel to use his time wisely, though the day wasnt as full for him as yesterday was, he is focusing on the activity I set before him. He is also learning not to argue when I say no TV, no Computer. I want him to realise that there is time in our day for those things but it has to be at the right time, and it is not a first choice but rather later in the day activity.
