Last night over dinner Daniel wanted to know what the name of next week was? He also wanted to know when tomorrow happened. We ran through the names of the week and he still was confused as to where tomorrow happens. This conversation is a good indicator that we need to do some calendar work with Daniel and Nomi would benefit too. When we have conversations like this it reminds me of the things that I take for granted my head just thinks but I have to learn to break down this thinking process and share it with my children. When does tomorrow come?
Joshua is reading Smart kid, Rich kid as a continuation of his interest in economics. Yesterday he discussed with us 7 Geniuses as outlaid in this book (and of the understanding that there is over 30 but the book only discusses seven.) Joshua identified the geniuses in each of his siblings as well as himself. He identified his sisters as Spatial/creative, Daniel as hands on and himself as Linguistic. This lead us to talking about people skills being necessary in life regardless of your learning style or chosen career. Joshua was able to identify the areas in our life that are training him in areas of people skills. I was particularly pleased to hear him being able to verbalise the significance of character in a person when it comes to relating to other people.
Last weekend we watched Magic School Bus Ants. (Forgotten its full and proper title) The next day we took on Arnolds annoying habit of finding words that end with ants (ance, ence, ats, and any other similar variation). We continued with this play on words for about 1 hour. Are you being dilig-ant? Are you resist-ant to that idea? Obedi-ant. Flipp-ant. Of course, now as I go to type all the words that we came up with my mind goes blank! It was a fun time and a great language expander time as well.
Jessica continues to bring some interesting questions coming out of her devotional reading. The last one being that Jesus said mother and daughter, father and son, brother and sister etc will turn against each other. Why?
Joshua asked the question why is there so many rules, rules, rules in running a church. Isnt a church supposed to be a group of Christians gathering together to worship God and support each other? Good question!
There have been days over the last week where it seems we are achieving very little. But when you look back and see the questions that are being asked and the discussions that are coming out I have to be confident to know that my children are being stimulated to think and to search out answers.
