Tuesday – Our local library runs several Visiting Author weeks throughout the year. We try and go along to as many of the sessions that suit our family. This week Boori Pryor, an indigenous author has been here. On Sunday morning we went to the library for a Meet n Greet Breakfast. We nibbled on muffins and local fruit while we listened to him talk of his stories and his perspective on things.
Today I took the younger two, Nomi and Daniel, into the library to join with the school kids for an hour each story time with Boori. The Preschool/Year 1 group, which Daniel joined in with, was an excellent story time; very interactive, lots of laughter and he kept the kids attention for a whole hour. Nomis session wasnt quite so exciting. He told stories, had the kids involved and riveted but it was lacking some depth in the literary sense. With previous authors the kids have come home really keen to write not this time. But it was a fun morning with lots of laughter. Which is good.
Talking of laughter reminds me of our Family Movie Night last Friday. We watched Over the Hedge. Daniel kept calling it Behind the Bush. I had heard mixed reviews from other families so I wasnt sure what to expect. But my kids loved it and just laughed and laughed. It really bought to mind the importance of laughing together as a family. In the days following the kids have re-lived some of that humour and this is all about sharing an experience building memories.
While we were in town we caught up with A.Beebee who took the kids with her to finish her shopping. She is always a much more fun option than mum!
Meanwhile back at the house Jess and Josh were diligently working on their lessons for the day. Josh finished his Notebook Planner document and Jess read more of her computer book. Josh worked on his Science, which in turn was able to help Jessica understand some of the chemical properties of materials that computers are made from. It is good to come home and see that they have been helping each other with their studies. They both completed their math for the day too.
The afternoon has been productive free time. Daniel has had reading time and then he has made a collage picture cutting up coloured paper. Nomi has had computer time and is also working on a collage very detailed collage. Jess helped load a new CD Rom onto the kids computer and dealt with the difficulties there. She then went on to find a Christmas present for Nomi and search on the Web for the components she will need to buy. She also searched the online phone book for the phone number to order this part. She baulks at making the phone call though so she will stand by me and I will model to her how to make a phone order! (Something I am good at! LOL!)
Today I learnt something new too I learnt how to put a Google search on my blog for my blog!
Nomi was my helper in getting my Creative Memories Workshop all set up. This is a good task for her to think through what is required and for her to stick to the task. This has been Jessicas job for so long that it is not time to step Nomi up into that.
Joshua cooked dinner just pasta but he managed it all by himself. Jessica arranged the kids into setting the table and sitting up ready for dinner, serving dinner and dessert all without my presence. (I was busy getting a scrapbooking sample finished for the workshop!)
My children love Table Time after dinner. I think they seek this more than reading time. This evening Nomi and Daniel created what could be called a huge mess on the floor or you could see it with different eyes and see a incredible maze with all sorts of gadgets, doo-dahs and traps along the way. They happily put everything away as well which was a big job for the end of the day. Jessica made Christmas cards and Joshua wrote a story.
