I haven’t recorded “Learning in our Life” for sometime. I have wanted to evaluate the importance of my recording this way. As I have said before the reason I blog is to help me see, and hopefully that encourages others as well, that the activity that happens in our family, whether it be planned lessons or “interruptions”, are all a part of our children’s learning activity. Over the last few months have been so full of learning opportunity in a sense I have got swept away and haven’t found the time to blog them! But I have missed it! So here I am again…. Recording the learning that happens in our life.
This year we have been having regular family devotions around the dining table at 8.00am. We have been working through the Clarkson’s book “Our 24 Family Ways”. It has been a great study. It has dovetailed not only into the needs of our children and their relationships but also for Peter and I in the adult world. It really is a Family devotion.
On Mondays, after Devotions, we have Bedroom Blessings. This is a weekly deep clean in our bedrooms. The boys do theirs, the girls do theirs and I am supposed to do ours. So far the kids are being more successful than me here! The airconditioners, the fan, the cobwebs, the dusting, the windows, the floor all need to be done. Along with the sheets, and wardrobe and all the stuff needs to be put away.
After morning tea we have our Family Bible Study. Today we studied the political and geographic issues for the children of Israel, during the silent 400 years – between Old and New Testament. It got a bit confusing there for a while as Josh knows so little and Daniel knows nothing! But we got there. Daniel was exciting to grab hold of a book on Alexander the Great and be content with that. The others really focused on the geography and who conquered who. As always, it is always a great feeling when the kids start talking about our lessons over dinnertime, which is what happened tonight.
Monday afternoons Josh and Jess work around the house for money. Work for Pay. Josh mows the lawns, which during the hot months is a weekly necessity. Jess helps with the housework; the last few weeks she has been helping me catch up with ironing. She also scrubbed the bath/shower today.
