Being Creative:
Over the last week there have been several creative projects worked on. Jess has sorted her sewing box and written a list of projects she has half completed or ready to go. We are going to try and do something creative a couple of afternoons a week.
Jessica has made a few necklaces while Nomi worked on a few scrapbook pages.
Daniel has been creating a “Tracey Island” from Thunderbirds. He has been using a cut-away picture book of Thunderbirds as his plans. He is using junk boxes and plenty of masking tape. We may try and keep this one for the Ag.Show later in the year.
Joshua has been making a board game along the lines of “Campaign”.
Wise use of our Time:
The kids have been listening to a lot of audio tapes recently. The lastest is “The Story Hour” – they are currently listening to Old Testament stories. While they listen they keep their hands busy with jigsaw puzzles, creating things, or notebooking at the tables.
Next week we will start with some Australian History stories.
Collaborative Learning:
As I have mentioned before the kids were doing an Egypt project with 2 other homeschool families. Friday night we had a potluck meal together and watched the final product – Their video was like a TV broadcast mimicking many of the regular TV time slots.
We also squeezed in a showing of the Letchford family movie production – Noah’s Exotic Zoo Cruise
One of the things that I have enjoyed observing as it grows in our family is the way the children depend on each other’s strengths. The Noah Movie was a great example. There was plenty of opportunity for Naomi’s acting and dramatic streak, Joshua enjoyed breaking the script down to storyboards and making sure the story itself flowed. Jess enjoyed singing, making noise etc but not necessarily being the center of attention, Daniel was in his element with the filming.
Family Worship:
As we sat down to discuss PEACE, we used the story of crossing the Jordan as our text. Daniel asked a very significant question, “What is the Ark?” He knew about the Ark of Noah but not this Ark carried by the priests. Joshua went and got the Bible Study tools – Bible dictionaries, commentaries, concordances, and other reference books. We gleaned a bit of information from each book. It was great to see the kids asking questions, knowing where to find the answers and discussing it together.
We came to the conclusion that if you are following the presence of God, you can have peace.
