I haven’t blogged for a while as we have been away on our family holiday.

We went to Perth for two weeks.  The first week went by very fast.  We were actually expecting Peter to have to leave us in Perth and return home to complete a job so we tried to squeeze everything into the first few days.  We burnt out and slowed down for the rest of the time.

First day we took the kids to SciTech.  They had a ball.  For me it was a learning experience!  I had to learn to back off and let the kids just explore.  I so much wanted to say "Slow down, read this, do you understand what is happening?"  But no, they just wanted to move from one exhibition to another just observing reactions and responses.

It was a great display of different science concepts – Magnetic fields, sound waves, energy, optical illusions though I think the best one was the filming technology.  Daniel in particular loved to see that.  They showed the filming tricks to making people fly, heroes scaling imposible mountains and crossing ravines that would plunge you to your death on a old ricketty swing bridge (you know the scenes!)  Unfortunately we weren’t prepared with a video so we don’t have footage of these intrepid feats!

The next day we were going to cross over to Rotnest but we were too tired (such low energy holiday makers we are!)  We went to Koorong – Christian book store.  Pete assures us it would have been cheaper to take the ferry to Rotnest and spend the day being a tourist!  But we all had a great fossick around and brought home a box full of books.

Within days Josh had finished his two novels.  Jessica and Nomi begged their father to take them back so they could buy another book each.  Which he did!

Saturday took us to the zoo.  We went with friends who have just left our hometown and moved to Perth.  We will miss them.  We had a great day together .  After the zoo we continued all our talking by joining them for dinner.  Mrs G. showed us the smallest leaf in the world under her microscope.  That was cool.

Sunday – a day for a well earnt rest!  Afterall we had been on holidays for 4 days.  We sepnt the afternoon and evening with other friends.  Actually from here on in it was catching up with friends every day.  Pete ended up not having to go away so we kind of hung around and caught up with friends every day till the family camp started.

We had a few things planned for Monday.  Pete treated me to a Pedicure so dropped me off for that – tooks the kids to a playground which they love.  They really miss playgrounds in our hometown.  The second trip back to Koorong, as I mentioned, happened after my pedicure – I forgot that I wouldn’t be able to wear shoes due to wet toenail polish and Koorong cafe was a "safe" place (for my ego) to be  barefoot in the city!

We then took the kids to PMH – the children’s hospital to show the kids where Nomi used to get her treatments.  We walked into the oncology ward and the nurse there remembered us straight away.  Isn’t that neat – nearly 10 years ago and she still remembers the "Smiley Baby"!  She took us through the ward, showed us the improvements, and took us to the treatment room where Nomi used to go and even got in the photos with Nomi.  That was really neat.

The rest of the week was spent resting, catching up on laundry and friends.  Until the family camp.  But that will be another post!
