So much for Josh giving irrigating another shot today – it has rained all afternoon yesterday, all night and it is still going this morning! We won’t be weeding either – plodding around in wet black soil, aka mud, is no fun!
We were a bit later in starting Daniel’s phonics lessons. Later in the morning he had his Speech Therapy, which is going really well. We discussed the idea of not seeing an OT for a while.
The big excitement for today was a friend got himself bogged on our driveway and the boys had to help him find a way to pull the car out. They tried the tractor but they couldn’t get it started so they just used the car. They first tried with a rope, the rope snapped so they ended up using a chain. Daniel is still talking about it all!
Once a month I give the kids a new “Magic School Bus” DVD. Daniel in particular looks forward to this. Magic School Bus a core part of our science in the primary school years.
This month’s video is about Sound (this is one of two videos I’ve left till the kids were older as it is set in a “haunted” house. The story turns out that the house isn’t really haunted but rather a trick of sound and light. When they were younger we always turned this episode off.) Over the next few weeks we will be looking for a few experiments on sound. The best thing that happens though is that the kids become aware of sound and they start talking about it, and tossing ideas around.
Over dinner we had a great conversation about a family with 50 kids. How many birthdays a month would that be per month? What if when they all got married? How many birthdays then? How many anniversaries? We considered the fact that we don’t do lessons on family birthdays. When would this family ever get school done? Would all 50 kids be home at the one time? What would the spacing be between each child, and what would the affects of that be on family life, especially not doing lessons on birthday! The conversation went from mathematical to ridiculous but it was a great learning discussion.
