Finally a day where we can stay home! It has been a fairly laid back day though.
Daniel had his phonics lesson. He needs to get more familiar with writing the sound he says. He recognises the letter for its sound when he is reading it but isn’t so fluid in writing it. I guess that is to be expected since I have really held back on the writing side till now. Daniel also had a session with his Speech Therapist. He is progressing well.
I had a discussion with Nomi and Jessica about their History studies. Jessica is going to study Rome using three different resources. Learning through History, a book from the library that has thinking points and assignments, and the DVD series Drive thru History which she has seen previously and really enjoyed.
Naomi is going to work on a unit based on one of Beatrix Potter’s stories. My goal with this unit is for her to learn to read instructions, to improve on reading for information, and to be familiar with using the Internet for information. She will also be presented with various thinking and writing activities.
We spent about 1 ½ hours on our Australian History studies this afternoon. Last week the kids listened to an audio on John Macarthur and Joshua was a bit concerned that they didn’t paint him in a good light. So we discussed the need to use more than one source and to be able to determine bias in a written piece. We read from two other books and decided that there were certainly elements of his character that weren’t particularly admirable.
Nomi and Daniel have been playing so well together lately. They are building with Lego, using the Pirate ship and all the dog play sets Nomi has; a complicated game, which they keep going back to. Daniel is loving the time Nomi is giving to their play as he does struggle to play by himself.
