Jess and I headed into town nice and early (6.30am) to do the shopping.  We surprised ourselves by finishing in 45minutes – that is grocery shop done, and trolley’s emptied into the car.  We filled in time by visiting an internet café before Jess had to be at Mainly Music to help set up.

Thursdays are a full academic day for Josh – he works all day independently and generally gets a lot done.

Nomi and Daniel worked on their basic studies – Math, typing, writing for Nomi, and Phonics and Math for Daniel.  I have decided to bring Nomi in with Daniel’s FIAR studies.  She has been having too much free time in the mornings, not really able to focus on studies without my guidance.  I’ll assign her extra thinking/writing tasks as we go through FIAR together.

Our FIAR lesson today was on the structure of the story – setting, problem, events, and conclusion.  We also did some vocab and created a cover page for our notebooks.

I had hoped to get to an Auslan lesson with them but that didn’t happen.

Jess was brought home by the Mainly Music co-ordinator, it was such a blessing not to have to drive into town to pick her up.

Later in the afternoon two other families joined us for what we call “Keepers”.  Yes, we do use the Keepers of the Faith manual, though we run it very casually.  Today we called it flexible accountability.  We are first and foremost families supporting each other, rather than a homeschool club.  At the moment the girls are nearly completed a quilt project.  It has been a very large first time project and they have all done very well.  Most of them are at the quilting stage.  We have decided to try and get that finished by the first week in March – but we will see (this is what I mean by flexible accountability!)

Joshua and Peter spent some time starting the papier mache on Joshua’s train table.  One of the things Joshua confirmed during our Planning Time was that he did want to complete the modeling side of his electric train table.  He has had the form constructed for a mountain side / tunnel for a year now so it was exciting to work on it again.

Dinner was late because our friends left later – it is so hard to break up a good conversation!  So after a simple, and very quick meal to prepare, we pulled out our current read aloud.  We have tried a few different stories for a read aloud lately and none have really grabbed us, some we have finished out of principle, one we doubt we will get back to (Peter and Josh can read it by themselves!) and others just seem to drop off by the way.  But… this one has everyone begging for more. We are reading, Pharaoh by Jacki French.   I just couldn’t stop at one chapter (which is all we really had time for) and then I found I couldn’t really stop at 2 but I did have to say “bedtime” after number 3.  So instead of stopping at intense anguish we stopped at intrigue –which is a much better emotion to go to bed on!
