We began this week feeling that it needed to be a slow and gentle week, with time to catch our breath and regroup with each other. I think we have achieved that – and some more!
The kids are being kinder to each other, they are more alert to the chores that need to be done around the place, and they are not dragging their feet so much. I came to realize that we had a feeling that we had been away, had a break and should be ready to go but reality was that our time away was full on and nothing like a break so we were really ready for a break! So a break we have had!
The trouble with this is that these types of feelings always come at the same time where we feel we need to buckle down and get some routine in our life! I found a compromise a little work and a little rest!
Our days were to cover the following as best we could
- Our personal responsibilities
- Family Bible Study
- Daniel’s reading lessons, while the others had 1 hour table time
- 1 hour working on a household project together (decluttering!)
- Free afternoons.
Mostly this has happened.
Josh and Jess worked on an Australian History unit; Gold. It was just a brief overview with one written assignment.
Nomi has consistently worked on her art. At the beginning of the week she completed a few art lessons during which she got inspired to copy some of the great masterpieces. She has since painted a Monet and a van Gogh. After each painting I asked her what she learnt while copying these paintings. They have been the first paintings she has made without drawing and colouring in her drawing. She has blended paint, built up paint and corrected mistakes. They are excellent paintings – so it is off to the frame shop to buy frames next week!
Daniel has learnt his ABC (the names of the alphabet) with stumbling over about 3 of them. He has also painted some and completed a little Femo-clay project. I have been really impressed with the development of his fine motor skills since his therapy in Melbourne. He continues to copywrite his readers as well.
A friend sourced a beginners music book with worship songs in it for Jessica. She has so enjoyed being able to work on these new songs (new songs in the music sense as we sing the songs at church etc). It is exciting to see her coming close to being able to play these songs in our home.
We resumed our Keepers this week though not a lot of work was done. The girls hadn’t seen each other for a month or so – there was a lot of catching up to do! I am hoping we will finish the quilts in two weeks time! I must start preparing the next project!
