My morning started bright and early because I didn’t get much of the lesson prep done last night. I then had a phone call from my friend across the sea (hello again MM).
Daniel also started bright and early at 5.30am which was a bit unusual for him as he has been sleeping in lately (7.30am). For those of you who know us you know that is a sleep in!! He was up and ready early today though – quickly having breakfast and then back into making another felt puppet. He is preparing for a puppet show – he reckons the story is really funny!
Daniel also prepared a snack – he cut slices of banana and put a sultana on the top. He put them all on the dehydrator tray to snack on throughout the day. They were yummy.
We started our lessons with our session on the character trait virtue – we reviewed the definition and memory work which helps us to define what a character trait looks like. We had a short discussion that to have virtue means we need to be making choices all the time – choices to listen to mum or to fiddle with toys, choices to play with one friend or be include everyone, choices to be happy or be grumpy.
We also discussed that we need to be influencers – to help the people around us change for good (we also discussed how we can influence for bad too but that certainly isn’t our goal!)
Nomi and Daniel then had some independent time; they both worked on a nature notebook page, Nomi completed another art & math lesson and Daneil a typing lesson. I continued to read “The Blood Covenant” to Josh and Jess. We have some doubts about one thing the author said so Josh has been given the task to research it and we will discuss that tomorrow.
10.00 oclock came around very quickly. A.BB (friend) is coming down to do a computer study course with Nomi. She is fairly computer illiterate so the idea is that they learn together.
While they were going through their computer course Daniel and spent time with his language studies. He put the alphabet cards in order, worked on two drills, and read 20 most-used-words.
Josh worked on Latin, Science, History, Writing, blogging,
Jess worked on Math, Piano, Australian History, History,
Both Josh and Jess had some specific lifeskill training today. I worked with Josh to bring his Finances up-to-date. I want him comfortable with a pen/paper journal system, we may then move to a spreadsheet system and then to a computerized system. I think there are benefits in understanding how journal entries work before jumping on the computer where everything is done for you. Jess is on the morning tea roster for Mainly Music this week so she chose her recipes and checked for ingredients.
Tuesday afternoon has become our work for pay afternoon. When the children can complete extra household chores without supervision we are happy to pay the kids for doing them. These are the tasks that either don’t get done or put pressure on Pete or myself to keep on top of them. Josh does the lawn and today he did some extra with pulling palm fronds out of the garden beds. Jess is learning to do windows. She also helped me declutter and put away the last of my Christmas decorations (gasp!) She also dusted and vacuumed behind and under furniture in the lounge room. These tasks helped me as I have a ladies meeting tonight.
Nomi and Daniel, though they don’t get paid just yet, spent 45 minutes dragging the palm fronds off to the bonfire pile.
5.00o’clock jobs have happened quick and efficiently this afternoon. Jess is on Kitchen duty this week so she was able to cook most of dinner as well as tidy up. We are having tuna mornay which is based on a white sauce so she learnt how to do a white sauce and has really done the rest on her own.
