All my children are blogging now.  I have found homeschoolblogger to be a safe place for them to start off. (Plus it has been an easy platform for them to learn about templates, and photos and all those technical things)

One aspect of blogging is about reading other people’s blogs and making friends.  Whenever reading anything – online, books or magazines – our children need to be discerning. My older ones are allowed to follow links and find friends – this is because they have developed a keen sense of discernment – they know what they want to read, what they want to be associated with.  They also have the self-control to move on quickly if a blog doesn’t satisfy them.  Blogging can be so beneficial but it can also waste so much time if we don’t have self control.  My younger children only follow up the links either myself or the older ones find for them.

My children have also had to learn to write content that is valuable too – valuable to their learning or valuable to their readers.  The older they get, the more blog-experienced they are I have seen them move from writing about  stuff to writing with a goal to encourage others.  This maybe to encourage others to do well in their school work, or in their walk with God, to use their time wisely, or to try new things.   Of course, they are still children and are still learning but it is exciting to see this as something on their hearts.
