Last year I rearranged my office space to give me room for a new bookcase never have too many bookcases I say! The purpose for this bookcase is to keep the books I use daily, or weekly, in order. There has been so many times that I lose a book I dont know how I lose a book afterall, I had it only yesterday!! But if there is no proper place for things it is all too easy for something to get lost even temporarily!
I love this system it really works for me.

I call these boxes my Workboxes I fill them each week with the resources and lesson plans that I need to teach my children. This takes two shelves of my book case.

The other shelves are things that I refer to often, such as:
- Notes for all my projects on hand but that is another system altogether! Ill share that another time.
- the kids finished work files waiting for me to check over
- Character resources, writing resources, parenting resources
- writing / publishing projects
- Audios I want to listen to, books I want to read, DVDs I want to see!
Before this bookcase I used to keep my daily/weekly books in a box. That worked well when I had 2 kids I was teaching but the more kids I had to balance the trickier it became. I also like that these books are in my office as I can sit down and do my planning and everything is at my fingertips.
I used to think that the kitchen was the hub of my home but as Jess and I were talking this week about systems I think the office is more the place where everything gets organised and managed. Maybe the kitchen is the relational hub but the office certainly has its place too!
I love this! I've liked the workbox idea, but all those boxes would take up too much room-this looks like a way I could finally implement the workbox system. Thanks. Holly
Yes, I believe this system would work for children's workboxes too (though I'm using it for my resources to teach from)
Could you tell us what your labels are please? This would help give me ideas for how to implement it in my home. Thanks,
Sharon
I am happy to share my labels with you – but keep in mind they need to fit with how your day runs and the lessons you are teaching your children. Here goes:
Phonics
Language
Math (x2 because one is for incidentals for my older children)
Character
Bible
General Knowledge (x2 – Science / History)
Delight (a collection of resources I've got my eyes on incase my children need inspiring)
Workshop (see a post a few days ago for Workshop Fridays)
Contenders / Keepers (practical life skills)
Conversations (Ideas for me to take to the dinner table for us to discuss)
Plans/Finished work (a place for me to keep a copy of our schedule / assignment sheets etc as well as 4 folders, one for each child to put their finished work in waiting for me to check/edit etc)
Three boxes are more for my administration
Projects – I'll write more about this one day – but I have a file in this box for any major project outside of education that I have on my plate.
Reading and Research – this is for my website
H.S. Research – things I'm looking into for my children
Hope that helps!
Hi Belinda,
I just wanted to drop by your web-site firstly to look around and also to encourage you on an awesome web page for homeschoolers and all your advice and encouragement. It is exactly what homeschoolers need. I have been homeschooling for about 16 yrs now and always thought it would be great to be able to ‘see”‘how someone goes about their day. We need so much encouragement, sometimes just to know sometimes it isn’t easy, but in the end it is such a blessing to be able to do ‘life’ with your children.
I love this page with all the tips on organisation!
Thank you,
Carolyn.
