Though Saturday isnt particularly a school day it has learning opportunities and it is a part of our lifestyle so Im going to record my Saturday in this series of journaling. Other times Ive recorded our week the purpose has been very clear to see the learning opportunities in everyday living this hasnt been the specific goal this time Ive focused more on me and my spheres instead of what the kids were doing. So as you read through this series you will certainly see gaps where you would be unsure of what the kids were doing.
When I wake up on Saturday morning my first thought is my newsletter I spend the first few hours of the day working on that unless I was super organised and spent time writing it on Friday (a habit Im trying to get into). But not so this week. When Pete woke up we talked about the theology of a particular email and that distracted me for a bit. Then Pete cooked breakfast, which he usually does on Sunday but due to circumstances wont be able to this Sunday so he decided to do it on Saturday, so I went out to join them once that was ready. Once back at the computer I tossed between two topics before things came together. This is why my newsletter was out later than usual.
Saturday is clean up day the kids all have their chores sorted I just keep the machine oiled. I spent an hour or so cleaning up my desk. Peter and I caught up about family things. I had morning tea with the kids (scones left over from last night which the kids really appreciated). Then I just pottered a few emails, a bit of scrapbooking, a bit of reading. Down time.
I spent some time with Josh in the afternoon helping him sort through an essay he had to write. It is very encouraging to see the methods we used to learn with our homeschooling are methods he is finding helpful with his uni studies. Reading Journal, Outlining, Summaries. Though there are a few things which I feel werent touched on and he will be a little weak in specifically structure of a paragraph.
Jess prepared the childrens talk for tomorrow church service. I confirmed her ideas, and encouraged her in ways to keep it simple.
Daniel mowed the lawn he is a good helper but he sure likes earning money! He is a bit of an entrepreneur!
Nomi (being the cooks helper for the week) put together a mix-match of finger food which we ate while we watched a DVD together. I tried to watch another movie after the kids went to bed, but too tired so I went to bed too. End of another day!
