As I have said many times before we have different seasons, different focuses in our family life and with each season comes a different set of goals. When our goals change we need to change our routines because routines are simply the way we manage our time in order to achieve our goals.
Our goals for this next season of family life are:
- Complete making (or buying) Christmas gifts
- Prepare for our holidays
- Tidy office to-do list so I can take holidays
Our day is made up of many mini routines and some of these will remain the same, but some will need to change.
6.00-8.00 Personal responsibilities will remain the same
8.00 12.30 Is our focus time and though this remains our focus time what we do in this time will change. We will have our devotion and Christmas story read aloud. The children will then do one hour of independent study while I work in the office. We will then spend the rest of the time on whatever is necessary as far as preparing for Christmas and holidays.
12.30-1.30 remains our lunch/chore time
1.30-2.00 (on the days that we are at home) will be reading time for all including myself
2.00-3.00 (on days that we are at home) will be my scrapbooking time where I dont want to be disturbed. This is partly to complete some gifts but partly to give me some creative time in a busy season. Some days I may sew as I have some sewing projects to work on too.
3.00-5.00 will be Family project time again depending on what is needed for the day
5.00-7.00 is chore time, dinner time, family time as per our usual routines.
7.30-8.30 is bed times for the kids, pottering time for me whether I potter with the kids, or blogging, or finishing off something.
So the general flow of the day doesnt change too much which is the beauty of having established mini routines. The whole day doesnt have to change just little bits which makes it easier for the children to maintain some sense of responsibility for their time (as opposed to always relying on me for what they are to do next.)
