I’d like to start blogging a review of our week, sharing bits and pieces of our days.  This will include a overview of our week,  projects and goals for the coming week, and any other miscellaneous bits that I think of it.  Like building a wall – our lives are one little bit at at a time.

This week in review

My main goal for this last week was to introduce the children to their independent studies.  This has been successful in that I now know where they have established habits and I know where we need some work  in this area.  They each know their list, and the priority of their subjects.  Jessica has planned her whole study list whereas for Daniel and Nomi it is only 1/3 their study load (as I teach the rest).   We have re-established the daily writing our to-do lists in our diary and placing our diary and any finished work out for me to see at the end of the day.  It is up to me to look over these every night or early morning.  One main area we need to work on is timeliness – we can amble through our list or we can work with purpose and direction.  The closer my presence, the more purpose there is in their effort!

red folder under the diary is the folder Jess places her finished work in, and then places it in the green box to the left. Each child has a diary and a folder.

In the midst of lots of rain the contractors doing the extension on our shed poured cement – Daniel just could wait to get out there and watch.  It must be a boy thing!

The girls both started new sewing projects.  Nomi is making a doll and Jessica is designing her own handbag.  She wanted something small for the times she just needs her wallet and phone.

The girls had their first piano lesson for the year.  While we were away they bought new music and so enjoyed being back with their piano.

We had a homeschool mum’s meeting where we just chatted, got to know a new mum to town, and generally enjoyed each other’s company.  We chuckled over Tim Hawkin’s Homeschool Family (which some of the mums hadn’t seen), we talked over books, food and our children.

As a family we’ve been enjoying Hogan’s Heroes (DVD’s).  Since my children have grown that little older we have introduced some of the older TV shows to the family viewing.  It is good to have a laugh together and honestly there isn’t much on TV these days to have a good clean laugh over.

I spoke to a friend who has found new resources for her children this year – being sensitive to the needs of each individual child.  It excited me to hear what she has found and inspired me to start looking at lessons for my two (Nomi and Daniel).  We’ll start teaching next week with our full study routine happening.

Weekend projects:

We have three study days a week, Thursday is project day as the girls are at Mainly Music and that shapes what our day looks like and Friday is mostly a wrap up/catch up day.  I also plan to do my planning on Fridays which then makes the weekend free for family and friends.  Most prep I need to do is for our Character Study, Living Math, and our Geography unit.

I thought I’d order a little bit of material and let Daniel make these pillowcases as gifts for a few friends who have birthdays coming up.

This week I want to create a scrapbook page on my reading list – I will follow this digital scrapbooking challenge.   I also want to clear off and organise my scrapbooking table so I can snatch a little bit of time there every so often.  (at the moment it is covered in a dust cloth from us being away!)

The girls and I are cooking dessert for a church based Marriage evening.  I think we have about 4 desserts to cook so between us we should get it all done Saturday morning.  We’ll make a custard teacake, mud cake, sticky date pudding, and a mouse (haven’t decided which one).
