Recently I’ve been thinking about the things that frustrate me in my life or around the house (and there’s quite a list) but instead of just being frustrated I’ve been trying to think through some solutions.
One of the things I’ve recognised is my never ending to-do list. I’m not talking about the routine things, but rather those little odd jobs that have to happen to keep things rolling. Things like ordering new math books. Filling out a form for the kids passports. Making haircut appointments. They are just not happening!
I have a new little motto:
If I don’t have time for it
It won’t happen!
Now that sounds fairly obvious but it means a new habit for me. If I don’t make a time for it to happen – that is the key – making a time, a specific, designated time for a particular task then it won’t happen. This means my to-do list has to be connected to my calendar. I cannot keep on taking on tasks without knowing when I’m going to do them.
There are other habits that follow on from this –namely – follow your time plan!! (aka routine) But that is whole other story!!
