Parents can fall into the trap of blocking our days into fun activities and God activities – and yet we want God to be a natural part of our own life, and of course, our children’s lives. We need to be able to talk about the things of God, talk about things from God’s perspective and refer to the Bible throughout our day. When God is a natural part of our life, it will flow into our family life, and as our children see this natural connection they start to understand a right picture of who God is, who they are, and how they can connect with God for themselves.
10 Different Ways to Incorporate Scripture into Your Day
1–Music – we listen to a lot of music – from contemporary, worship, old time hymns, country and kids. One of our favourites is Colin Buchanan – we have a lot of scripture memorised because of his music.
2–Scripture Memorisation – Josh and Jess incorporated scripture memorisation into their personal devotions and have been very consistent. The other two have relied on me, and I’ve let the team down. This is something we want to work on.
3–Read it – reading the Bible stories to our children gave us great opportunities to open a conversation about the truths God would have us learn.
4–Audio stories – my youngest two have learnt many Bible stories and character through audios
5–DVDs – lots of fun – speaking the language our kids love and yet establishing stories and truths in their memories
6–Colouring in sheets – we would often have a colouring in sheet for the young ones while we read through the scriptures
7–Personal quiet time – once our children have been able to read the Bible independently they have had their own personal devotions as a part of their morning routines.
8–Family devotions – this is a time where we read and discuss scripture together as well as pray as a group
9–Use scripture for setting standards on behaviour – kindness, love, diligence etc. God’s Word always has to be the standard for our behaviour
10–Pray together – we learnt to pray at bedtime, at family devotions and around the dinner table. We also stop wherever we are, whatever we are doing and bring a concern before the Lord.
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11
Over to You:
How do you help your kids connect with God and His Word?

I love these practical ways to include Scripture into our daily moments! As a family, we’re big on family devotions, songs, and really getting into scripture memorization. I look forward to more of these as my son gets older, too!
