Yesterday in my blog post I used a word that I didn’t even think about – Furphy. I was talking about socialisation and how people use this issue to qualify whether we should homeshcool or not. It is a Furphy. But maybe you didn’t know what I was talking about!
One of my readers, Luke investigated what this word means: (Australian slang) rumor; untrue gossip; an improbable story.
We had a chuckle and Josh filled us in with the history behind this word – The Furphy water carts were a gathering place for rumour to be shared in army camps in WW1
Then my mum sent these photos.
Years ago when we saw these photos first we particularly liked the quote on the back of this tank:
Good, Better, Best
Never let it rest
Till your good is better
and your better – best
I learn new things all the time. I love reading blogs because I bump into words of which I was completely ignorant. Thanks for sharing more about this [smile].
