Yesterday in my blog post I used a word that I didn’t even think about – Furphy.  I was talking about socialisation and how people use this issue to qualify whether we should homeshcool or not.  It is a Furphy.  But maybe you didn’t know what I was talking about!

One of my readers, Luke investigated what this word means:  (Australian slang) rumor; untrue gossip; an improbable story.

We had a chuckle and Josh filled us in with the history behind this word – The Furphy water carts were a gathering place for rumour to be shared in army camps in WW1
