What is man’s primary purpose? To glorify God and to enjoy Him forever (Westminster Shorter Catechism)
It is easy to get tangled up in what is our purpose? What should we do with our life? Is this right or is this right? But we are reminded here that our primary focus is to glorify God and to enjoy him (that means build a relationship with him). The when, where and how certainly become secondary.
Each one of us are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ by God with talents and abilities that make us who we are. God gave us those talents and abilities with a purpose in mind. Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Our desire for each of us is that we will first and foremost live to glorify God and secondly that we will find the good works that God has designed especially for us.
At the end of our life may we have the same testimony as David… after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers.
May we serve our own generation for God’s purposes, with the gifts and talents God has given us.
