The Bible gives us very clear instructions to be hospitable. We are to be hospitable to each other (1 Peter 4:9), to those in the church (Romans 12:13) and to strangers (Hebrews 13:2). We are to be generous and do it without grumbling. When we are hospitable it is a service unto the Lord (Ephesians 6:7).
To be hospitable is to share food, shelter, and friendship with others ~ Character First
There are no qualifications on when to be hospitable – not when we can afford the time, money or energy – we need to be prepared at all times to meet the needs of those around us. But unless our heart is in the giving it is an empty gift. Hospitality is more about giving of ourselves then it is about our stuff.
Hospitality is more than meeting the physical needs, we also need to be available to meet the spiritual needs of the people we meet. This means we need to … Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 1 Peter 3:15
Remember it isn’t about the house – it is about the heart.
