Conversations are the biggest tool we have to shape the hearts of our children. Have you talked to your kids about what it means to love God?
At first reading this means that we are to love God with all our being – but when we start to understand what that means we find daily applications to this command of Christ.
When the Bible says ‘heart’ it means our conscience, our mind, the place where we think and understand, our inclinations and will, our character, passions and emotions.
This means that every decision, every belief, every action, every emotion should be directed towards loving God.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
Loving God with our whole heart – with every aspect of our life – means that we will be different than the world around us, we may have a lonely walk, or we may have a life filled with people and their encouragement – either way we are to walk in the path that is consistent with loving God.
31 days of heart conversations is a series of thoughts that I really want my children to understand. At the end of October they will be compiled into a faithbook album so the family can dwell on these truths over the coming years.
