When it came to deciding to homeschool or not our journey is very much described by Prov 16:9 We should make plans – counting on God to direct us. (TLB)
We wanted to homeschool,
We have made plans,
And God has directed us with these Scriptures.
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16-17
These scriptures have been the foundation for a lot of our thinking as we have grown as a family – they have shaped our decisions and actions.
Scriptures that have directed us:
These are the Scriptures that have directed our understanding of education as we seek to know how to homeschool.
Deut 6:4-7 The Lord our God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
2 Peter 1: 5-6 Add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brother kindness love.
1 Tim 1:5 The goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
Scriptures that have encouraged us:
There are many times that I have needed encouragement as we teach and train our children.
1 Peter 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
Micah 6:8b What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Matt 11:29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
My encouragement to you:
Start your own Homeschool Journey Journal. In such a journal you can record the challenges, the answers the Lord gives you, the Scriptures you have for encouragement. In days ahead you will be encouraged by such a record.
