family faith and fun advent guide
It’s simple
Choose the activities that work for your family for this year. You don’t need a lot of prep time – you need to decide and run with it; which means it’s never too late to make the most of Christmas as an opportunity to touch your child’s heart.
It focuses on Jesus
Unless Jesus gives us meaning to Christmas we are just telling a Bible story. The Guide will help you find activities that truly focus on helping your child’s understanding of Jesus and God’s purposes.
You can have fun
Christmas – even a Jesus focused Christmas – can be fun. Fun times together as a family builds memories and connections. We want to teach truth, but we can do fun things too.
What you will find
Advent is traditionally seen as the 4 weeks before December 25. One of the traditional things to do during Advent is the Advent wreath where you have a wreath with 4 candles and a 5th in the middle. Each week you’d light a candle and reflect on the words love, joy, hope, and peace, and then on Christmas Day you light the centre candle and reflect on Jesus.
This Family Faith and Fun Advent Guide takes those 4 words and makes them the focus of family activity for a week. Each week you have the opportunity to:
- Reflect on how that word is found in Jesus
- Make a plan to show that truth to people in your community
- Decide on a fun family activity so you don’t forget to connect at this busy time.
3 different ways to apply love, joy, peace, hope for the month of December.
I love Christmas, but…
I love Christmas time and have many special memories of doing different things over the years to help my kids understand the Jesus reason for Christmas as well as being able to have fun together. I also remember that this was a time of year when I was rushed and tired and sometimes it was just very hard to do anything meaningful.
Early on I decided to do one thing and do that one thing as well as I could but even more important than that one thing was my heart and the hearts of our kids. If I got stressed and distracted – then even that one thing wasn’t worth it. When that happened we went back to reading books and playing worshipful music.
So I get that we can’t do it all – and with that in mind I created this simple Guide. It will help you do that one thing, it will remind you of the importance of the heart, and it will give you ideas if you have the time and energy to do one other thing too!
Merry Christmas!
May the love of Jesus help you stand strong with your family as you show the love of Jesus to the world.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Happy to answer any questions you may have...
How will this guide help my family focus on Jesus during Advent?
This Guide gives you heart-focused activities; meaningful activities that help you focus on the things that you believe and value. In particular, the Christmas words of promise: hope, peace, joy, and love, in a way that builds connection as a family and serves others in your community. You can dig into Jesus as deep as you like.
Are the activities suitable for all ages of my children?
Yes the activities are adaptable to all ages. The activities in this guide are prompts that you will then be able to make work for the ages of your kids, as well as the opportunities your community offer. Every family and community is different.
How much time do the activities take?
That will depend on you – some activities can be done around the dinner table, some need more time to be out and about doing things together. So some will take 15 minutes, some an hour, some a few hours. But you choose and there are options. It is a flexible Guide that you make work for your family.
What happens if I miss a day?
This is not a day by day Advent plan; it is based on one focus per week. You can do daily activities if that works for your family, or you can do one a week. Once again, the idea is to make it work for your family.
Do I need to buy crafty materials and supplies?
Most activities don’t require you to go and buy supplies, though there are some activities, should you choose them, where you could use supplies already in the house or go and buy something new. Making gifts and decorations either with craft supplies or kitchen supplies is a possibility. But once again – you decide.
Is this a one-time purchase, or will there be updates or additional content in the future?
This is a one-time purchase that you will be able to use year after year.
How will I get the Guide after I purchase it?
This is a downloadable product. You will receive a download link in both the receipt page and in an email.
Can I share the Guide with my family, friends or Church?
Though I would love you to do any of these activities with extended family and friends – sharing the file with others is against copyright. If your family or friends are keen to be intentional with Advent and Christmas then I’d appreciate you passing them to my shop so they can buy their own copy.
The Family Faith and Fun Advent Guide is a wonderful way to bring your family closer, share the joy of the season, and create traditions that truly matter.
