Helping you be heart focused in all of your family life.
I’m so glad you are here
Hi, I’m Belinda! Do you ever get overwhelmed with all that it means to be a parent these days? Always playing catch up with the urgent making it hard to deal with the important?
My heart is to help. I can help you change things in your family with some coaching, or you can dig into the blog and download some of my free resources. Where ever you turn you’ll find encouragement to be intentional, relational and heart focused in all areas of family life.
The Importance of Family
Live life with your Kids comes with the message that parenting is about relationships with our kids, about teaching and training the heart, about using the whole of life to teach character, wisdom and life skills to our kids.
Family is the place where we grow as strong individuals, and yet know a sense of belonging and purpose with others. It is a place where each individual grows and flourishes in their own created uniqueness.
I have been blogging for over twenty years now. It started as a place for me to process what I was learning about homeschooling, but it didn’t take long for me to understand that homeschooling is just a tool – the important thing in raising my family was to be a heart focused parent.
And this is the encouragement I want to leave you with – our job as parent is to teach, train, guide and encourage the whole child: the spiritual, moral, emotional, social, intellectual and physical.
Being Intentional is about living true to your values and purposes.
Relational so we can engage with our kids in a respectful way.
Heart focus is when we address the children’s character and motivations instead of just behaviour.
Live life with your kids:
Build strong relationships, shape your child’s heart and use the whole of life to teach faith, character, and life skills.
Behind the Blog
It is hard to introduce yourself without listing what you do first – we are more than what we do – we are who we are. I am me – I love Jesus, I love my family. I am a creative person who loves homemaking, scrapbooking, sewing and having friends over. I find rest in quiet and when I’m being creative. I enjoy reading (though between parenting and the internet I find my reading attention span has slipped!!) I enjoy being outdoors (though don’t do it nearly enough). I like the idea of gardening but watching a movie is more likely to win out.
Since our kids have grown up, and our homeschooling years are behind us there is a big sense of change in my life, I find that parenting with relationships isn’t over – we still have plenty of conversations, at all times of the day, about all sorts of things. Being available for my family, and helping my kids in their endeavours still takes up a lot of my time.
Meet my Family
I am married to Peter. We live on a farm in the far north of Western Australia. Peter is a large animal Vet and flies across a huge distance to service the cattle stations in the north. I have been a stay at home mum over the years and homeschooled from prep to year 12. We have four kids: Joshua, Jessica, Naomi, Daniel – all have grown up and left home and are pursuing new things in their lives.
Joshua is a highschool teacher, Jessica is working in Administration, Nomi is studying Graphic Design and Daniel is studying Digital Animation.
Growing up as a family we enjoyed playing board games, having parties, watching movies and camping (though didn’t do it enough). As the kids grew up we encouraged creativity and it is a delight to see each person pursue some form of creativity in their adult lives. Most of us enjoy social media though very aware how it takes away time for reading and other good things. Our favourite family time was Sunday breakfast where we tried to have meaningful conversations though the kids would often get distracted by funny one-liners from movies they had seen.
I still believe that the idea of ‘living life with your kids’ is true. We aren’t living in a physical location together but our hearts and lives are still intertwined.
Since our nest is emptier, the challenge for Peter and I as far as family life goes is:
1. To create a family lifestyle of two
2. To continue to connect with and support our kids in their endeavours
3. To find and enjoy purpose in a new season of life.
Though we are always seeking God how to spend our time and energies one thing we do know is that we love being involved in our local communities (both the Christian community, and the community at large.)
My OneWord for this year is ‘relationships’ – and that encompasses every sphere of my life – my relationship with God, our marriage relationship, relationship with the kids, with friends, with those in our community and online.
If you were to talk to Pete and I you would find that our passion is about families (both the natural family and the family of God). Our deepest desire is for these two identities to be functioning as God has intended – with peace, harmony, and impact on the world around them.
