Joshua continues with his Science and Math. We started our Reading Hour last week and continued with the idea of a reading journal. Joshua is reading a book on George Washington Carver as a science read.
Jessica spent time finishing some notebook pages, writing in her reading journal (which she is enjoying), and starting up her blog again.
On one of the days that Nomi and I were away she took Daniel for a FIAR lesson. (I had left her with the idea of spending time with Daniel but had not got to give her the material to read/discuss etc with him.) She knew we were doing weather so she read the Magic School Bus book on weather to him, and got him to make 2 notebook pages. One shows the “bits that make weather” – heat, water, air. The other shows some different weather expressions – storms, rainbows, sunny days.
Before I left for Darwin Daniel had photocopied two pictures from his comic Bible. He told me about them and I then wrote two simple sentences, using Startwrite, in dotted writing. I printed them out and he traced the writing, and glued them with the pictures into his “art/writing journal” that he made the day before.
Since Nomi’s birthday she has been writing about her days constantly. Jessica gave her a journal and Nomi has recorded gifts, thoughts, and all that she has done. I am correcting her spelling occasionally.
I love to see the way writing is a part of their lives, even without school lessons!
