The first hour is the rudder of the day –
The Golden Hour
Henry Ward Beecher
How do you spend your first hour? I must admit my first port of call lately has been the computer check my emails, check all is well with the world. This isnt particularly a good habit. If the first hour is the rudder then I should be into the Word.
Why do I check my emails first?
- Its addictive
- It feeds my sense of belonging
- There is a lack of discipline
Sitting in Gods Presence first:
Opening the Word and sitting in Gods presence, communing with Him is more than a trick to having a good day. It is about
- Acknowledging that He is in control of my day
- Acknowledging that He is upmost in my mind
- Acknowledging that I need Him
So back to tweaking bad habits and establishing good ones! Ive been here before it is amazing how subtle changes happen in our life good and bad ones. I was having my Bible time and suddenly I wasnt. I was making it a priority and suddenly it wasnt. But it takes a while for the realisation to sink through and for me to have an honest assessment of what is really going on. Then it is up to having the self control (rejecting my own desires and doing what is right) to make change happen. Of course I cant do that on my own so I need the help; the prompting, the guiding, the convicting and enabling of the Holy Spirit.
Oh my friend I can so relate to your (our) struggle. I have the same issue. My problem is a little different because I may spend the first hour with Him but it may be at 10 am when it should be at 7am. By 10am I am late and my focus and attentions are drifting. If I am honest, I know He is not getting my best. Like you said, I start off doing so well and all of a sudden I am doing something else. Thank you for the encouragement. It is so helpful to know that I am not alone. I will pray for you and maybe you could do the same for me. I am so thankful that He knows our hearts. God Bless!
Guilty as charged. You have a lovely blog.
